These photographs were taken from Gatineau Park, Quebec near the start of Promenade de la Gatineau where it crosses Chemin du Lac Meech, near Camp Fortune. They are both the first time I experienced Northern Lights, and the first time I photographed northern lights. It was closed for the winter, so there was no risk of traffic, and it was a nice open space to shoot from with some tree-lines on all side, and with no city lights in view.
The light show was absolutely spectacular and lit up the entire sky. There were vibrant greens and yellows and reds in the sky all around me. I’ve been watching the weather and sunspot activity for my chance to photograph them again, but I have not yet had any luck.
All photos were taken with a Canon 17-40/4L lens on a Canon 10D Digital SLR. Exposures ranged from ISO 100 to ISO 1600 and from 5 seconds to 2 minutes.
